Chinese Teen Dies at Internet Rehab Camp

Deng Senshan, 15, reportedly died last Sunday, a few days after he was sent to a camp to treat his addiction to the Internet.  The boy was found sick and died after being taken to a clinic for treatment.  Other students at the camp said that Deng was beaten by a teacher.

Concern over Internet addiction in China is high, and many rehabilitation camps have sprung up to meet the demand.  Some camps have scientific addiction treatments while some include harsh military styled discipline. China’s Ministry of Health has recently banned the use of electric shock therapy on Internet addicts.

It is estimated that 10 percent of Internet users in China under the age of 18 are addicted to the Internet.
